Trends: Fashion Spotlight - Jumpsuit PDF Print E-mail

McCall's JumpsuitIn looking over all the exciting trends for Spring 2009, the revival of one retro style has taken us all by surprise – the return of the jumpsuit much like what was popular in the late 1970s and early ‘80s. But the difference is that on the Spring 2009 fashion runways, these jumpsuits have come a long way from our Disco Fever days and are now beautiful designs of draped silk and flowing, opalescent chiffon.

Designer Stella McCartney was one of the first to feature one-piece designs, and this spring she is showcasing both long and short styles with a variety of necklines – from plunging V-necks to sporty halters.

Also the high-fashion collections of Diane Von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbanna, Giorgio Armani and Missoni featured this retro look in a variety of fabrics and variations. But each design house aptly demonstrated how this trend can be dressed up or down for the ultimate quick & easy chic alternative to the all-purpose dress no matter what the occasion.

Some added gladiator sandals and chunky jewelry for the Grecian goddess approach. Others crafted the jumpsuit in shantung silk and accessorized it with diamonds and high heels, while still others like Armani adapted his favorite lace to the jumpsuit styling and created ultra-feminine, provocative versions.

And we can always tell when a trend is starting to hit the mainstream marketplace because McCall’s has available once again a jumpsuit sewing pattern. This one features the flowing lines of retro look combined with a trendy floral/geometrical print, so the trendiest among us are getting ready to update our wardrobes!
