FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:

Bust -- 33"

Back Length -- 20.5"

Sleeve Length -- 22" from shoulder to cuff

 

MATERIALS:

3 skeins ELLA RAE CLASSIC – color 121 (Night Rider) – “A”

2 skeins ELLA RAE CLASSIC – color 123 (Grey Suit) –“B”

8 stitch markers

# 6 needles – Straight and 24” circular (or size needle to obtain gauge)

2 stitch holders

1- 1” button

tapestry needle

 

GAUGE: 22 sts. = 4”

 

NOTES: Each row on the chart represents 2 rows. The first row reads right to left,all stitches are knit and slipped stitches ( dark stitches on a light background or light stitches on a dark background ) have yarn held at back. The next row is read left to right and stitches are purled or slipped with yarn held in front.

When working the chart, dark stitches on a light row are slipped and light stitches on a dark row are slipped.

Sweater is worked in one piece from the bottom edge to the armholes, then fronts and back are worked separately to the shoulders.

Collar is knitted separately and then sewn on.

Mosaic ( or slip stitch) patterns alternate 2 rows light , then 2 rows dark, etc.

 

BOTTOM EDGE:

Cast on 221 sts. w/ color “A”. Knit 9 rows ( making 5 ridges of garter stitch, ending with right side facing ) Next row- with “B” knit first row of Chart 1 (21 sts.), place marker, knit 14 for gusset, place marker, knit first row of Chart 2 ( 41 sts.), place marker, knit 14 for gusset, place marker, knit first row of Chart 3 (41 sts.), place marker, knit 14 for gusset, place marker, knit first row of Chart 4 (41 sts.), place marker, knit 14 for gusset, place marker, knit first row of Chart 5 (21 sts.). Next row, work stitches as established, purling on the wrong side, and knitting on the right side, EXCEPT the stitches for the gussets, which are always knit.

 

GUSSETS: (worked over 14 sts.)

Gussets are striped in garter stitch( knit every row).

Knit 6 rows. On 7th row, ssk,k 10, k 2 tog. Rows 8,9,10, 11, 12- Knit 12 sts. On 13th row,ssk, k8, k2tog. Rows 14,15,16,17,18-Knit 10 sts. On 19th row, ssk, knit 6, k2tog. Rows 20,21,22,23,24-Knit 8. On 25th row, ssk, knit 4, k2tog. Rows 26,27,28,29,30- knit 6. On 31st row ssk, knit 2, k2tog. Rows 32,33,34,35,36- knit 4.On row 37 ssk,k2tog. Rows 38,39,40,41,42- knit 2. On row 43, ssk.

Work last stitch of each gusset into the mosaic pattern.

 

ARMHOLES:

When sweater measures 11” from the bottom edge, bind off for armholes ON THE WRONG SIDE. Purl 40 in pattern, BO 5, purl 79 in pattern, BO 5, purl 40 in pattern. Each section will now be worked separately to the shoulders. Place right front and left front on holders.

 

CENTER BACK:

Attach new yarn with right side facing. At the beginning of the next 2 rows BO 2 sts.( 75 sts.) At the beginning of the next 8 rows BO 1 st.(67 sts.) When back measures 7” from armhole BO 6 sts. at the beginning of the next 6 rows. BO remaining 31 sts.

 

LEFT FRONT:

Attach new yarn with right side facing. At the armhole edge, BO 2 sts. 1 time, then 1 st. 4 times. At the same time, at the neck edge, BO 1 st every 4th row 11 times, then BO 1 st. every other row 5 times. When armhole measures same as back BO 6 sts. at armhole edge 3 times.

 

RIGHT FRONT:

Attach new yarn with right side facing. Work the same as for the left front, reversing the shapings.

 

SLEEVES (2):

With “A”, cast on 54 st. Knit 9 rows ( making 5 ridges of garter stitch and ending with right side facing) On the next row work Chart 6. Knit 20 sts. of pattern,place marker, knit 14 sts. for gusset, place marker, knit 20 sts. in pattern.

In the same row that the gusset decreases to 4 sts. begin increasing 1 st. on each side of the sleeve every 6th row, until you have 65 sts. When sleeve measures 17”, begin BO for sleeve cap.

BO 3 sts. at the beginning of the next 2 rows. BO 2 sts. at beginning of next 2 rows. Then decrease 1 st ( k2tog) at each end of each right side row 17 times. BO 3 sts. at the beginning of the next 4 rows. BO remaining 9 sts.

 

COLLAR:

Cast on 8 sts. Knit 2 rows. Next row and every 4th row, increase 1 st. in first stitch( knit into the front of the stitch, then knit into the back) until you have 26 sts. Knit even for 10” then decrease 1 st.(k2tog) every 4th row on same edge as increases until 8 sts. remain . Knit 2 rows, then BO.

 

FINISHING:

Sew shoulder seams together. Then ,with color “A” pick up 64 sts. along left front from the bottom to where the neck decreases begin. Knit 3 rows. On 4th row, make a buttonhole 3 sts. from the top like this-knit 3,BO 3, knit to the end of the row. On the next row, knit to the bound off sts., cast on 3 , k 3. Knit 3 more rows, BO.

Next , pick up 64 sts. along right front from where the neck decreases began to the bottom edge. Knit 9 rows, then BO.

Sew side sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into armhole openings.

Sew collar to the neck edge and top of front buttonhole bands.

Sew button to band opposite buttonhole.

Lightly block sweater.
